"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause of and prevention of disease."

Bolz & Lucas Chiropractic (Questions)
The following is some general information about chiropractic care. Chiropractic Care Chiropractic utilizes the inherent ability of the human body to heal itself. It is a noninvasive form of treatment that avoids the use of surgery or harsh medications/chemicals. Chiropractors are experts in understanding, diagnosing, and treating the neuromusculoskeletal system of the body (nerves, joints, bones, muscles, and soft tissue). Medicine has come to think of chiropractic doctors as experts in the treatment of lower back pain; however, chiropractic doctors are also experts in treatment of neck pain, and all other conditions related to the spine, as well as pain in any joint or muscle of the body.

Education
The difference between a Chiropractic course of study and a medical doctor’s course of study is that after the intense study of human anatomy and the various systems in the body and after learning to diagnosis problems in these systems, the MD learns to treat the problems through a course of study in pharmaceuticals and surgery, while a Chiropractor learns the biomechanics of the body and how to reestablish proper alignment and function to the body so that it can heal itself.

Once the doctor's education has been completed and his or her D.C. degree obtained, the doctor of chiropractic must successfully complete the National Board Examinations (there are now four different levels of National Boards required), and then pass the State Board Examination in any state that the doctor wants to be able to practice in. Only then can the chiropractic doctor begin a practice.

Treatment
Chiropractic care is gentle and effective. The primary form of treatment is that of the specific chiropractic adjustment. Joints are gently and very specifically moved in order to restore normal mobility to the joint and to return it to normal function. Simply stated, life is motion and motion is life. Lack of motion of the joint or restricted overall motion leads to decreased function, deterioration of the joint, arthritis, and a life of pain and discomfort. Chiropractic addresses this better than any other treatment.

The doctor may elect to use a variety of other therapies and soft-tissue techniques can be used to help support the chiropractic adjustment and to help relax and heal the muscles and soft tissue.
